The forgotten church buildings, outdated fuel stations, and dilapidated farmhouses dotting the backroads of the Southern landscape are a fading treasure.

Just one pair of Manhattan photographers are accomplishing their aspect to document the majestic twilight of these one-way links to America’s previous.

Steve Gross and Susan Daley are two architectural photographers whose professions have taken them across the region in research of amazing residences, magic formula gardens, and living heritage for some of the country’s major publications.

It was during these highway excursions that the pair made the decision to document some of these neglected jewels that they uncovered together the dusty freeway.

“We want to doc the sort of destinations that utilized to be ubiquitous and are now disappearing, getting been replaced by chain suppliers, strip malls and franchises that all glance alike,” Daley shared.

“We’re advocates for the classic, neglected places,” Gross added.

The duo’s new e book, “Backroads Properties: In Look for of the Vernacular,” chronicles their journeys from shoot to shoot as they stop off the crushed path to doc a piece of the earlier.
